The faithful adventurers headed upstream, Grayson deciding to take the lead for once. They were ‘greeted’ once more by the bearded man, appearing in his usual puff of smoke. He relates a story to them, trying to gain their sympathies, saying he is enslaved by the Ragesians, specifically one named Kreven. He asks the group if he can tag along, wishing to take the case before they exit the forest. He goes into a story about how he’s also been tasked to stop the Seela from singing, seeing that their song is what keeps the forest burning.
The party reluctantly agree, and somehow manage to distract the bearded devil man long enough for Grayson to steal the necklace he wears, an enchanted pinky finger. They later find out that this necklace has the enchantment of Mage Hand on it.
They carry on again, further down the road they come across a burning horse. The party recognize the downtrodden half-alive/half-dead animal as being Haribo. Laini manages to gain control of him, and he follows her around from this point on.
At the end of the road they meet a unicorn by the name of Nelle, who is the guardian and guard of the waterfall, the shrine at the base of the falls, and the 20ish burning and crazy elves who have taken refuge inside the shrine. Nelle convinces the group to rid their party of both the devil and Haddin, claiming them both to be evil. Lyv valiantly chases the devil off, torturing his ankle with her powerful flea-bite and most intimidating halflingness. Or maybe he just left because he felt unwelcome, who knows. Haddin is asked to leave, and takes both Torrent and Crystin with him. The complaining old man isn’t much missed, but the loss of his magical great hammer is, at least inwardly by Flint. Lyv uses her one good brain cell to figure out that it was Haddin controlling Torrent, and not the creepy dragon in the flames. The rest of the party seem to not care about this fact.
Inside the shrine, in addition to the multitude of burning crazy elven folk, there are two statues, one in the likeness of a Dragon, the other resembling an Eagle, the Dragon having 3 enchanted scales and the Eagle 3 enchanted feathers. Flint procures the objects, which they later figure out will magically turn into a boat that can carry three people (or eight horses?), 2 whips (and no chains), and 3 birds (possible airbourne transporation? Or just helpful companions?) Flint also figures out that the braided enchanted rope he found earlier, when wrapped around the wrist of two humanoids, changes color to burgundy if the parties are related by blood. He lovingly refers to it as ‘Incest Rope’.
Nelle speaks of ‘The child of Trilla’, which Lyv uses that gargantuan brain cell to put two and two together once again that it is the fire dragon beast that spoke to them. Lyv also figures out that they, as a party, need to get the thing that was in the thing when she was asleep in order to make the forest stop burning. (In her sleepy past vision, she saw a figure break the dome and steal something from it, but didn’t see who it was or what the object was.) (See Progress Report 8)
The next day, the less brilliant minds of the party try desperately to get behind the waterfall, while Lyv, knowing there was NOTHING BEHIND IT, carries on down the road. Eventually Flint follows, and grudgingly the rest finally come to grips with what Lyv knew all along. She must have gained a bit of extra wisdom after popping that goblin pill the other day and having the weird in the past dream.
They make it to the bridge again, and Grayson clambers up into the tower. They hear singing, and eventually a woman with papery looking wings pops up onto the embankment next to the bridge. Lyv loses all her wisdom and points at her, asking “Are you a Seela?” then a male of the same species appears behind her and stabs her. A fight ensues, the singing Seela begging them all to not fight each other. Lyv tries to protect her but seems to have used every ounce of wisdom and is pretty much useless. The party tries not to kill any of them, and a few break out of whatever trance they’re in and run off. Apparently all of them have become crazed, save one called Tiljann.
