Our brave adventurers have found themselves in the Free Citystate of Gate Pass following the mysterious death of Emperor Drakus Coaltongue, ruler of the Ragesian Empire and the man who forged peace from an age-old war between the Ragesian Empire and the Shahalesti.
Torrent tells of rumours that Ragesia is preparing for war, presenting a growing threat to all spellcasters in the city. She would like us to meet the leader of the resistance, Rivereye Badgerface, to discuss plans to stop the threat. She’s especially concerned since Rivereye’s usual contact, Peppin, was found dead a week ago.
The evening is rather pleasant. Flint’s taken refuge behind the bar with a look on his face like he can see the future (It’s Flint Darkstaff, after all) and Lyv has nearly finished the ale. As Grayson tries to slip upstairs there are a series of explosions, the city shakes and the bar is suddenly flooded with enemies. Oh, and it’s slightly on fire.
We fight our way out, somehow fail to acquire a very fine horse, and make our way to the Depository Towerwhere Rivereye is waiting for us.
We meet with Rivereye (who is very clearly a gnome) and get guided down into the vaults where there is a case requiring a password to open. Through wit and cunning we discover that Rivereye is very clearly not a gnome, nor is he in fact Rivereye. We’re still not sure who or what was impersonating him, but it got away along with Rivereye’s plans.
We find the real Badgerface alive and well, if a little dazed from being knocked unconscious.
Lyv got to see a strange orb of light floating around with the imposter that Rivereye seems to have heard of; he doesn’t know much about it though.
In need of advice we agree that the best course of action would be to consult with Gabal, a famed evoker who helped drive out the Ragesians during the war some 40 years before…
